Owners Name: Jon Furst
Model: Standard Microbus
Year: 1956 (built Feb. 1956)
Color(s) (originally) Sand Green/Palm Green. Now Yellowish/Greyish.
Car Features: Pretty much stock except it has a 1600cc for now. Features old logos from a locksmith in San Angelo, Texas on the sides.
Mechanical/Cosmetic changes in the works: Rebuilt (except engine). Would like to replace the nose and paint soon. Also, it really needs a headliner!
Any work that you did/do yourself that you are particularly proud of: Complete rebuild of front end and rear end. Installed new wiring harness and got the bus back on the road in 1 ½ months after it had been sitting for almost 30 years.
How you became interested in Vintage VW's: I’ve owned them for many years and have been progressively getting older and older buses. I like the older styling the best.
Why did you pick this particular model? It is old, was inexpensive, mostly original, not hacked or lowered or customized. It is also not very rusty. I wanted this bus for about 3 years before the guy sold it to me. I am trying to find as many original parts to complete it.
Any stories/facts about this particular car: Was a mobile locksmith vehicle in San Angelo, Texas. I have only owned it for a while so I haven’t done much research.
How being a member of MPAS improves your Vintage VW experience: It is interesting to see what others do to their vehicles.
