1st Annual Vintage Volkswagen Tour Of Monterey
This Labor Day, the Vintage Volkswagen Tour of Monterey was run for yet another successful year. Somewhere around 40 air-cooled VW's rolled into Del Monte Center for the rally which left at 11am. The tour made a complete circuit of some of the most scenic areas of the Peninsula including: Downtown Monterey, Cannery Row, Lover's Point, Asilomar Beach, Skyline Drive, Highway 1 through Carmel, Carmel Valley and Los Laureles Grade. With the sun beaming down through clear blue skies, the drivers ( feeling quite accomplished after successfully tackling the hot climb out of Carmel Valley) pulled into the lovely grounds of Chamissal Tennis Club. The cars organized themselves into divisions of Type 1, 2, and 3 for the parking lot Show and Shine, which displayed some really top-notch vehicles. Jeff Parker catered the event, producing quite an impressive spread of Tri-Tip Sandwiches, along side plenty of fresh bread, fruit and salad.
The festivities really began when a cake was uncovered to celebrate the 1 year birthday of the founding of the Monterey Peninsula Aircooled Society. Featuring a picture, in frosting, of many of the cars ( and their dedicated drivers) that have made this fledgling club so very successful. Congratulations M.P.A.S.! To all the wonderful participants in this year's Tour, and to all of those wishing you could have been there...see you next year!
